New coats make us feel all warm inside, and outside, too! Snuggly teddy fur, fine woollen yarn, lined parkas and soft down get us through the winter in style. Wool and leather coats and trenchcoats are ideal for between-seasons. When picking out a coat, you'll soon realise that you need to consider both style and functionality. Are you keen on a subtle, understated look or looking to wow? Be guided by your mood; of course, you need a bit of choice in your wardrobe to do that. Need some inspiration? Coming right up!
A blustery autumn
Red, ochre, brown – we all fall in love with the colours of autumn anew every year. It's no wonder we're always heading out on walks through the falling leaves. A short quilted coat in black, brown or navy lends a stylish country air to your outfit. The lightly lined material stands up to autumn temperatures just fine. Typical features include brass-coloured press studs and large front pockets for keeping your hands warm. Pair your jacket with suede leggings, short rain boots and a plaid wool scarf.
A mulled wine date
Snow is falling, the lights of the city twinkle and you huddle up against the cold wind at a mulled wine stand: those evenings are the best part of winter, and your look can be as hot as your drink. What better way to look good when you're all wrapped up than with a stylish coat? Soft teddy fur in striking colours and patterns is very in right now. Whether you go for cherry red, royal blue, orange or all three together, an explosion of colour is just the thing for long winter evenings. Wear your coat with sleek black leather trousers and lined biker boots. Have fun!
Ice queen
Don't let the sub-zero temperatures get you down! With a thick parka, there's no need to hide away indoors during the winter months. This kind of lined winter coat will provide optimal protection against the cold. Snuggle into the fur-lined hood (faux fur, of course) and watch the snowflakes fall. Winter parkas in khaki, blue and black make great neutral pieces that go just as well with jeans as they do with loose-fitting slacks or velvet trousers. Add a cosy knit jumper and platform ankle boots, and you have yourself a winter look!
Fresh for spring
The crocuses are blooming, the birds are singing and the weather is finally a bit milder. It's finally time for a light transitional coat! Our favourite is the trenchcoat. This comes in lots of different versions, from flowing cotton poplin to stiffer canvas-type fabrics and raincoats. It has a decidedly laid-back look when worn open. When closed, it creates a strikingly elegant silhouette. Paired with a light cashmere jumper and leather boots, it'll help you get your floral dresses out of winter hibernation that bit earlier.
A coat for every occasion
There are so many wonderful coats out there that it's almost a shame when winter's over. Luckily, you can wear woollen coats, parkas, trenches or leather coats for all sorts of occasions. That's reason enough to treat yourself to one of each. You'll find stylish designs at reduced prices at Afound. There are always new bargains to be had – discover them now!
FAQs
Can coats be washed?
It all depends on the material. You can wash down coats in the washing machine. Make sure that they also go in the dryer afterwards, so that the down and feathers dry out completely. Don't forget to add a tennis or dryer ball, as this will prevent any clumping. Coats made of wool, felt and loden cloth should be taken to the dry cleaner, but you can clean light dirt off leather coats yourself. For suede, use a cleaning foam for rough leather. Clean leather carefully with a little soapy water, followed by some dubbin or saddle soap. Be sure to check the manufacturer's instructions before you start to clean your coat.
What should I do if my coat starts to pill?
This can sometimes happen with wool coats. The fibres come loose and gather in unsightly clumps when they are rubbed against. You can get rid of them with a lint remover or a razor. Glide it over the fabric without exerting any pressure. The bobbles should come away from the cloth. You can then simply shake it off or gather it up with a lint roller.
Should I button my coat all the way up?
You can do whatever you like! Lots of people find it more comfortable to leave one or two buttons undone at the bottom. This gives your legs a bit more freedom if you're wearing a long coat.
For photos, it looks nice to leave your coat completely open. You see a lot of this on fashion blogs or Instagram. An open coat looks relaxed, while revealing the rest of your outfit.
