This is the result of an online survey conducted by the Cologne-based opinion research institute YouGov. Where does the fascination for high heels etc. come from? FAQs
What is a loafer?
A loafer is a unisex slip-on shoe or loafer with a heel. These ladies shoes are available in many trendy variations, for example with platform, chains or buckles, plain or in animal print.
The prototype of today's loafer originated around 1910 in the USA.
- In the mid-40s, the "Beefroll" from the Sebago company came onto the market.
- In the 50s, loafers produced in Italy, became cautiously popular. The American company Alden presented its "Tassel Loafer" - a low shoe without lacing for men.
- Since the 60s, loafers have arrived in the fashion world. Notable celebrities showed up in the comfy shoes.
Where does the term "penny loafer" come from?
This is the most famous loafer of all: the penny loafer is characterised by a transverse slit in the shaft bridge above the instep. It is also called "college shoe", because the Bass company was responsible for the distribution of the comfortable slip-on shoes at the universities. There the practical loafers became the "classic" footwear of the elite universities. Legend has it that students kept a penny in the shank bridge above the instep for good luck.
Penny loafers are comfortable and elegant at the same time. In brown, black or dark grey, the timeless low shoes are absolutely suitable for business.
What are bridal shoes?
This is the footwear that the bride wears at her wedding. Generally, wedding shoes are coordinated with the wedding dress. As far as colour, shape and type are concerned, there are no specifications. The possibilities are endless! There are bridal shoes in white, ivory, silver, champagne, gold, rosé and numerous other colours, with and without heels, simple or playful. Should it be flat ballerinas, "classic" pumps or elegant stilettos?
As a rule of thumb: flat bridal shoes harmonise wonderfully with long wedding dresses. High-heeled bridal shoes are a special eye-catcher with short wedding dresses. Above all, however, it is important that the bride feels completely comfortable in her wedding shoes. She wears them for many hours on the "most beautiful day of her life".
