Eau De Parfum
Heinrich Heine wrote that 'Perfumes are the feelings of flowers', and it's true that a gorgeous eau de parfum is the most exciting accessory that you can wear. And that goes for women's perfumes and men's fragrances alike. A fragrance is something personal, as it won't have smell the same on anyone else as it does on you. If you choose well, it will translate your mood with superb eloquence. There are many different facets to perfume, from subtle to elaborate, fresh to powdery, and floral to citrussy. Find your newest fragrance among our deals! You'll soon understand how an eau de parfum exerts its full effect when worn.
The fragrance pyramid
Eau de parfum exudes an intense scent that envelops you for a long time. Some notes come to the fore while you're wearing the fragrance. You'll be familiar with this if you've ever sprayed a perfume in a shop to find out what it smells like. You buy it, leave the shop and spray it again, only to find it has an entirely new character. Perfumers refer to this phenomenon as the fragrance pyramid. It consists of a top note, a heart note and a base note. Each of these phases is characterised by different perfume oils and lasts for different lengths of time.
The top note
The top note of a fragrance for men or women is like the first few bars of a song: it grabs your attention and creates a certain mood. In the same way, as soon as you spray on a scent, you get a sense of what's to come. Perhaps you'll think to yourself, 'Wow, what a lovely summer fragrance!' Or, 'Mmm, really sensual'. The top note tends to be a fresh or spicy scent. It creates a strong first impression, but fades within a few minutes, making way for the next phase.
The heart note
The actual essence of the perfume reveals itself in the second step. The term 'heart note' tells it like it is: the main chords of the fragrance now take centre stage. These give expression to the perfume, so you should smell the scent again about 5 minutes after applying it. Only then will you know whether it really works for you. This phase goes on for much longer. As it progresses, another facet gradually starts to come through.
The base note
The base note of any fragrance for men or women runs through the scent experience like a throbbing base line. At first, you only get a slight hint of it. Over the hours, it gradually makes its presence felt, until it dominates your perception of the scent. It gives the perfume warmth, with woody, musky or vanilla aromas. These notes also mean that a perfume will smell slightly different depending on who's wearing it. The components of the base note develop their own special character due to the texture of your skin, so that you essentially have your own signature scent.

FAQs
What's the difference between eau de parfum and eau de toilette?
The two types of product contain different proportions of fragrance. Eau de parfum is higher quality and contains much more fragrance, with 15–30% perfume oils, while eau de toilette is just 6–9%. This makes the eau de parfum's fragrance more intense and longer-lasting.
Where should I apply perfume?
Perfume only exudes its glorious scent to the full if you apply it in the right place. It's best to do this in the spots where you can feel your pulse. These include the insides of your wrist, the sides of your neck and your temples. Behind the earlobes, on the nape of your neck and on your neckline are also great places for applying perfume.
How should I store an eau de parfum?
If you store your perfume properly, you'll be able to enjoy its intense fragrance for a long time to come. Be mindful of the following:
- Cool – you can store perfumes at room temperature, but it's not equally cool everywhere indoors. Keep the bottle far away from any source of heat, but not in the fridge!
- Dark – fragrances don't like light. A windowless bathroom makes a good place for them. If your bathroom has windows, it's best to store perfumes in a cupboard.
- Tightly closed – never leave the bottle open. Put the lid back on after every use and ensure that it's tightly closed.
