Hardly any other piece of clothing exudes as much pure zest for life as the bikini. The scantily cut two-piece embodies summer, sun and fun. As well as the traditional triangle bikini there are also all manner of other designs. The different designs, colours and styles mean you're spoilt for choice when it comes to finding one right for you. How do you find the perfect fit? Discover different designs and trends at Afound!
Mix & match bikinis
All beach beauties should feel 100% comfortable. That's why bikini sets are giving way more and more to separates. You can mix and match as you like. This lets you find the shape that best suits your body.
When choosing your top half you can go for a triangle design, push-up option, sports bra style, bandeau bikini or longline tankini top. Bikini bottoms come in thongs, Brazilian-style, briefs or tight-fitting shorts, which are a little longer. High-leg bikini bottoms are cut very high on the leg. This look harks back to the high-leg Lycra leotards worn in the 80s. High-waisted bikini bottoms, on the other hand, go right up to the waistline and are full of retro charm. There's a bikini for every look.
Bikini trends
Each season, manufacturers surprise us with new colour combos and twists on a style. Trousers are getting tighter again. High-leg bikinis are just as on-trend as Brazilian-style bikini bottoms. By contrast, high-waisted bikini bottoms and underwired cups give two-pieces an air of cool, retro chic. If you're big on colour, why not go all out in a neon bikini. Hot pink and vibrant orange are especially summery and flatter any skin tone.

FAQs
Which bikini brands are popular?
Each manufacturer has a signature style that runs through its collections. Calvin Klein bikinis embrace the label's chic New York style. Ralph Lauren creates sporty and elegant bikinis in a typically preppy look. Some brands incorporate playful lingerie touches into their bikini designs. Others use sophisticated geometric cuts and a hint of glamour in their creations.
Who invented the bikini?
Frenchman Louis Réard created the first bikini. In the 40s, he took over his family's lingerie business. He wanted to create swimwear that felt cheerful and fun, and that didn't require much material. This was driven by the fact that, at the time, fabric was hard to come by. So he reduced the swimsuit to four small triangles of fabric and a bit of cord. The design caused a scandal. After all, a bikini only covers the bare minimum of flesh. Despite this, he got his way – or rather because of it. We just love bikinis!
How should I wash my bikini?
Swimwear fabrics are delicate. They should be regularly cleaned to wash off harmful salt from the sea and chlorine. Rinse your bikini with clean water after every use. After a holiday, or every few weeks, give it a thorough wash. You can wash it in the washing machine on a delicate cycle. The water should be no hotter than 30°C and the spin cycle should be switched off. Use a mild detergent for colours. It's best to avoid fabric softener and chlorine. These attack the fibres too much, causing the bikini to wear out or become hard.
