Remove red wine stains from your party outfit

Although it’s always nice to have a glass of red wine, it soon becomes a nightmare if the contents end up on your favourite garment – something that’s certainly happened to all of us. Maybe you are in a restaurant or some other place where it is difficult to treat the stain right then and there. Don’t worry. There are some measures you can take to make it easier to remove the stain once you get home. Just follow these easy steps to save your best garments or home textiles from ugly wine stains.

  • Start by gently removing excess wine from the fabric with paper or a clean cloth without rubbing the stain further in.
  • Keep red wine stains slightly moist, they will be more difficult to remove if they dry up. Soak the stain with plain cold water or soda. Avoid hot water as it may cause the stain to stick.
  • If you can take the garment off, it’s good to pour plenty of salt on the stain and leave it for a while. The salt absorbs the wine and lifts it away from the fabric.
  • If the red wine stains are not completely removed by the salt, you can try dabbing it with more water.
  • Another trick is to mix some baking powder with water until it becomes a cream that you can gently cover the stain with.
  • Then follow the washing instructions on the label and wash the garment as usual. Should the stain seem to remain, it’s good to skip the dryer and allow the garment to air dry so that the stain does not attach further.

Save your mornings with easy coffee stain removal

Since coffee consists largely of water, it can sometimes be enough to rinse the stain under running water, along with a small dose of detergent. But since coffee stain removal can also be difficult, some stronger action might be needed. This is how you remove strong coffee stains from clothes:

  • Mix vinegar with cold water and gently dab the coffee stain until it disappears.
  • Try the vinegar solution on a hidden part of the garment first, to make sure there’s no discolouration.
  • Then wash the garment as directed on the label.

Blueberry stains and other berry stains

Even though fresh berries and jams are super delicious, they leave difficult stains if they end up on your clothes. If you do not have the opportunity to take off your own or your child's dirty garments on the spot, there are still actions you can take before you get home. Then, when you’re in the position to treat the garment properly, there are more steps you can take to ensure a clean garment free from blueberry stains or stains from other berries!

  • Wipe off as much of the stain as possible with a piece of paper or cloth, but don’t press too hard as the stain may get rubbed in even further.
  • Keep the stain moist with water until you can wash the garment properly.
  • Be sure to protect any layers of clothing underneath the stain so that it does not travel downwards.
  • Once you are home or have access to laundry facilities, you can start by rinsing the stain under running water. Rinse blueberry stains and other types from the backside of the garment and make sure the water is cold for best effect.
  • Gently rub the stain with detergent or stain remover and then wash as instructed.

How to get grease out of clothes

Be a master chef in the kitchen and enjoy a good dinner in peace without worrying about getting grease on your clothes. Getting rid of grease stains is not very difficult, even if you don’t have any detergent you can easily find another type of stain remover for your clothes at home. Here’s how to get oil out of clothes:

  • If you have no detergent at home, it can be just as good to remove grease stains with regular dish soap. Apply a small amount of detergent directly on the stain with water and leave for about 30 minutes. Then rinse with water.
  • Do you have delicate clothing? Use baking soda on the stain. Gently wipe the grease stain with paper, then apply plenty of powder to absorb the oil. Wash the garment as directed.

We all love chocolate, but not chocolate stains

Melted chocolate easily ends up on clothes and on the sofa or other fabrics. Just as with other stains, you’ll get the best results if you treat the stain as quickly as possible. To remove chocolate stains most effectively, try this:

  • Start by gently removing excess chocolate from the fabric with a blunt knife or spoon.
  • You should avoid washing chocolate stains with warm water, it will just make it stick more.
  • Instead, rinse the stain under cold water, turn the back of the fabric under the stream and the chocolate will dissolve and leave the fabric. This same technique can be used as a carpet stain remover.
  • To remove old stains on clothing, pre-wash the garment on its own (ideally by hand) before washing it according to the directions on the label.

How to remove blood stains

Blood stains on clothes and other materials can come from many places. From accidents and scrapes to period stains on bed sheets and towels. It is important to try to take care of the stain as soon as possible. Even if you don’t have a mattress stain remover or other detergents at home, you can still fight blood stains with just water and salt. Here’s how to remove blood stains:

  • The most important thing about blood stain removal is to avoid hot water which just makes the stain stick more.
  • Instead, rinse directly on the stain with running cold water. This will help release it from the fabric.
  • For severe blood stains, soak the fabric together with some salt and leave for a few hours before washing as usual.
  • To remove old blood stains, you may need something more effective than salt. Mix two parts of bicarbonate with one part of water until it becomes a thick cream. Cover the stain with the cream and leave for about 30 minutes. Then wash – this should remove even the most difficult stains.
  • Some blood stains on sheets might be hard to remove altogether. If you need an extra pair – at Afound you can always find good deals on home textiles!
