So how do you get rid of chocolate stains in the best way? Don't worry, here you will find a lot of good tips on how to best remove chocolate stains from clothes and how to best wash chocolate stains from the sofa.

Washing old chocolate stains

We have all been there. After wolfing down one or two chocolate cakes, carefully making sure that we do not spill, to discover the next day a large chocolate stain from those chocolate crumbs we were accidentally sitting on. Typical.

  • Old chocolate stains can appear as dark stains on clothes, and seem impossible to wash off. Because chocolate stains harden and get even firmer over time and if exposed to heat (read: dryer), they can be difficult to wash off.

  • The best thing you can do is to gently rub liquid detergent on the chocolate stain and then leave the dirty garment in a bowl of cold water for about 30 minutes. Repeat this step until you see no improvement.

  • Then immediately wash the chocolate-stained garment in the washing machine, on your regular washing program. Read the washing label to see what temperature works for that particular garment. Repeat the whole process until you have defeated the chocolate stain.

  • If the stain is on light-colored clothing, try gently rubbing some lemon juice or vinegar on the stain before placing the garment in the washing machine. They act as natural and mild bleaches, and the acid can help lift the chocolate from the textile fibers.

Wash new chocolate stains

If you notice that you got chocolate on your clothes in the heat of the moment, there is another method that works best for washing chocolate stains. If you hurry before the chocolate stain has dried, you will get the best results.

You will need:

  • Spoon or food knife
  • Large bowl or washing machine
  • Liquid detergent
  • Stain remover (jelly or spray)
  • Cold water

Here's how:

Use a food knife or spoon to gently scrape off as much of the chocolate stain as you can. Do not use anything sharp when scratching the stain, as you risk damaging the garment. Also, be careful not to smear the chocolate into a larger stain.

If the chocolate has already dried and become hard, it can be difficult to scrape it off without damaging the clothes. Test it carefully and decide from case to case if it does more harm than good to scrape on the chocolate stain.

Rinse the chocolate stain with cold water

Using cold water, rinse the back of the dirty surface, where the chocolate stain is located. In this way, you do not rinse the chocolate through the entire garment, but back through the fabric fibers that have already become dirty. It is easy to think that it is best with hot water, but hot water can instead cause the stain to harden and settle.

Treat the chocolate stain with detergent

Gently rub liquid detergent into the garment on and around the chocolate stain. Leave the garment for about five minutes. Without rinsing off the detergent, then place the garment in a bowl of cold water for about 15 minutes.

Every three to five minutes, pick up the garment and gently rub the stain between your thumb and forefinger, trying to loosen as much of the stain from the fabric as possible. Then rinse thoroughly and wash as usual in the washing machine.

Stain removers and chocolate stains

If an oily stain remains, even though you have followed all the steps above, it is time to pick out the stain remover. Rub the remover on both sides of the garment where the stain is located, so that the stain remover penetrates the fabric properly. Then wash as usual, and repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.
